English Parties
Want to come and practice your English? Would you like to make new friends?
Our "English Parties" that we have been hosting once a month have been very encouraging. We have organized two parties and the last Wednesday of this month will be the third party with a few rounds of "cake walk" and a lot of English conversation. Our parties encourage our readers to practice their English with other people, allow the Christians here to meet our new friends and are a lot of fun! We pick a theme and play a few rounds of a "get to know you" type of game. This idea was given to us by our LST team from last spring. We even have some contacts who continue to come to our parties, but who, for some reason or another, are no longer reading with us. The people with whom we read out the book of Luke don't only have an interest in improving their English. Most of our readers also have interest in "the theme" as they call it--or as we would call it, "Jesus." Christians from our congregation here have also been very supportive of the parties and feel the call to become involved even though they do not read regularly with them in English as we do.
Coming Out of the Woodwork
We have had an astounding number of contacts at the English Playgroup since it resumed in August. Every week we have new families who attend, and a few have become "regulars." Of course, we can't wait to get to know them better and hopefully join in activities with them outside of the playgroup setting. This last September, we went to the zoo with a family who has been attending since August 2006 and we have invited--and been invited by--a couple of others from the playgroup. If we continue to receive so many new contacts, we may have to go to two separate times during the week, but for now we're enjoying the large number of children having fun every Tuesday.
